On the field and off, Tennessee offensive tackle Michael Munoz became one of the most decorated Vols ever coming off his senior season. On the field, Munoz, son of the legendary pro offensive tackle Anthony Munoz, was a team co-captain for the second consecutive year, and earned NCAA Consensus All-America honors, having made all-star squads as selected by the American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, and Walter Camp Foundation. He finished the regular season with 55 intimidation blocks despite playing in only nine games his senior campaign. He was SEC Lineman of the Week off his performance in the Sept. 25 contest against Louisiana Tech. Off the field, he was a 2004 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and earned the Vincent dePaul Draddy Trophy as the nation's top scholar-athlete. He also earned the Woody Hayes National Scholar-Athlete Award given by the University & Northwest Sertoma Club of Columbus, Ohio. He was a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection. Munoz has already received his bachelor's degree in political science and played this season as a graduate student in public administration.

- Elected team captain again for 2004 season, Munoz and teammate Kevin Burnett are the ?rst Vols since J.G. Lowe in 1924-25 to be elected captain in consecutive years

- Considered early entry into 2004 NFL Draft, but decided to return for final season

- Munoz and teammate Kevin Burnett were the first juniors to serve as Tennessee captains since All-America guard Bob Dobelstein in 1944
