Bio
It was the year between Tennessee's two SEC Championships under head coach Doug Dickey and it was the first season played on Neyland Stadium's artificial turf that Jim Weatherford earned All-America honors.
In the Vols' 10-9 win over Alabama in 1968, Weatherford blocked the Crimson Tide's final field goal attempt in the final minutes before a national ABC audience and capacity crowd at Neyland Stadium. Including Weatherford, six of his defensive teammates at UT earned All-America honors during their collegiate careers.
Weatherford helped the Tennessee defense post two shutouts and hold three other opponents to just a touchdown as the Vols went 8-2-1 on the year. The two-year starter was part of Tennessee's dominant defensive era that lasted into the next decade.

1968 - SENIOR
- Played in 10 games his senior season, helping lead the Vols to an 8-1-1 regular season record and a runner-up finish in the SEC
- The 1968 campaign marked Weatherford's third-straight season of leading UT to eight or more victories
- Earned coaches' All-America honors in addition to being named first team All-SEC by the UPI and second team by the AP
- Blocked a field goal as time expired for UT to hold on to a narrow 10-9 victory over Alabama
- Won AP and UPI honors as defenseman and back of the week in the South for his heroics in the Alabama game
- Forced a fumble on the first play of the game against Memphis State, as the Vols went on to win 24-17
- Helped the Vols shutout Ole Miss 31-0, snapping an eight-game skid in the long-time Dixie rivalry
- Returned six punts for 55 yards in addition to having one interception return for 14 yards
1967 - JUNIOR
- Saw action in 10 games during the regular season as the Vols posted a 9-1 record overall
- Helped lead the Vols to an SEC Championship and No. 2 national ranking
- Part of a defensive secondary that set a program record with 26 interceptions, which still stands as the third-greatest single-season output in school history
- Recorded two interceptions during his junior campaign, totaling 21 return yards
1966 - SOPHOMORE
- Played in 10 games during his first season as a member of the varsity squad, which saw the Volunteers go 7-3 during the regular season
- Capped off his sophomore campaign with an 18-12 victory over Syracuse in the Gator Bowl
- Recorded one interception on the season
1965 - FRESHMAN
- Began his Tennessee career as a wingback on the freshman team
- Led the rookie squad with 10 catches for 109 yards
