May 21, 2022 | Men's Tennis
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The No. 6 Tennessee men's tennis team saw its season come to a close Saturday in the NCAA semifinals, falling to seventh-ranked Virginia, 5-0.
Tennessee (26-8) finishes the year with single-digit losses for a fifth consecutive season.
Virginia (27-5) took the doubles point at the start of the match and won six first sets, en route to four singles victories. The Cavaliers won on courts six and two simultaneously, explaining the 5-0 decision.
Among the two unfinished singles matches, Tennessee graduate student and third-ranked Adam Walton came back to win the second set, 6-2 over Virginia's #30 Chris Rodesch.
Despite having to overcome multiple injuries throughout the course of the dual season, the Vols went 2-0 at the ITA Kickoff Weekend to advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships in Seattle for a second consecutive year and the second time since 2014. While in Seattle, Tennessee earned three top-13 wins to advance to the championship match. After a three-match losing skid in March, Tennessee went on to reach the SEC Tournament semifinals and won 12 of its ensuing 15 matches to close the season.
