Itsusaki Shines At Rocky Top Invite

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Sophomore Shion Itsusaki put together a strong weekend for Tennessee men's tennis in their first fall competition of 2026-27 at the Rocky Top Invite at Barksdale Stadium.
The Osaka, Japan, native finished the weekend with two singles wins as well as a doubles win on Friday.
Itsusaki began the tournament with a singles victory, defeating Cardinal Russell Lokko, 6-1, 6-2. In Sunday's singles round, he used an early setback to power him to victory. After dropping a narrow 7-6 set to Indiana's Aryan Badlani, Itsusaki won his next two, 6-3 and 7-6 (5), to take the match.
Itsusaki also notched a doubles triumph on the weekend alongside partner Woodson McMillin. Together, the duo notched a 6-3 victory for the lone doubles win of Friday's action.
FRIDAY'S RESULTS
Tennessee split wins to open the tournament, notching one doubles triumph and two singles victories.
The duo of Shion Itsusaki and Woodson McMillin claimed a 6-3 decision, while Itsusaki added an individual win, coming out on top, 6-1, 6-2, in singles.
Alan Bojarski tacked on another singles victory for the Big Orange, prevailing by a 6-3, 6-1 score. It was Bojarski's first win in the orange and white.
Martin Doskocil and Woodson McMillin dropped each of their singles matches, with Doskocil falling to Artem Dmytrenko from Louisville, 3-6, 7-6, 5-7, and McMillin suffering a 2-6, 3-6 setback against Louisville's Maksim Hristov.
Doskocil and Bojarski concluded their doubles matchup on the short end of a 3-6 decision.

Martin Doskocil tabbed his first collegiate win on the second day of the invitational.
The freshman had a 2-6 start before a dominant comeback, winning the next two sets, 6-2, 6-1, to overcome Memphis's Alfie King.
Bojarski, Itsusaki and McMillin dropped each of their singles matches, while Tennessee went winless in doubles matches for the day.

The match was 5-2 in Indiana's Aryan Badlani's favor in the last set before Itsusaki clawed his way back to even the match at 6-6, forcing a tiebreak set to be needed.
Itsusaki was locked in during the tiebreak set, claiming a 7-5 victory to give him a winning record in singles for the invitational.
