Track Central: Bob Pollock Invitational / John Thomas Terrier Classic

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee track & field program wraps up the month of January with two meets on the docket this weekend, competing Friday and Saturday at the Bob Pollock Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina, and the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston.
Thirty-seven athletes will represent UT at Clemson, beginning Friday at noon ET with Endia Smith competing in the women's long jump. Day 1 concludes with the men's 60-meter final, scheduled for 5 p.m. ET. Action resumes Saturday at 11 a.m. ET with JL Van Rensburg and John Bruder in the men's shot put, and the Bob Pollock Invitational will wrap up at approximately 5:35 p.m. ET with the men's 4x400-meter relay.
The Bob Pollock Invitational will be streamed online Friday and Saturday via ACC Network Extra, available on the ESPN app or at espn.com/watch. Live results will be provided throughout the meet by Flash Results.
Thirteen Tennessee distance runners will travel to Boston University for the John Thomas Terrier Classic, with women's races taking place Friday followed by the men on Saturday. Friday opens with Mary Nyaboke Ogwoka and Tula Fawbush contesting the women's mile at 2 p.m. ET and wraps up at 6:40 p.m. ET with Summer Schuster competing in the women's 5,000-meter. On Saturday, Carter Knox will begin proceedings in the men's elite 800-meter at 4 p.m. ET, and UT will round out the weekend with Ethan Edgeworth and Zouhair Redouane in the men's 5,000-meter at 7:05 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT: Tennessee turned in a strong showing at the Orange & Purple Invitational on Friday, Jan. 23, led by a dominant performance from the men's pole vault group. The Vols swept the top four spots in the event, led by Clarke Byram, who won with a clearance of 5.55m (18-2.5). Blake Sifferlin and Evan Puckett followed in second and third after both cleared season-best marks of 5.40m (17-8.5), while Cade Gray finished fourth at 5.25m (17-2.75).
On the women's side, Mya Strahm placed second in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.19m (13-9), while Kendall Ford added a fourth-place finish at 3.94m (12-11). Junior Grant Campbell rounded out the action with a third-place finish in the men's high jump, clearing 2.07m (6-9.5). Overall, Tennessee totaled seven top-five finishes across the pole vault and high jump events at the Orange & Purple Invite.
RANKINGS UPDATE: Tennessee men's track & field claimed the top spot in the first release of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Track & Field Rating Index (TFRI) that was unveiled Tuesday morning. The Volunteers earned a nation-leading 127.49 points in the NCAA Division I Men's TFRI, edging No. 2 Georgia (127.28). Kansas State (107.85), Texas Tech (106.45) and Texas A&M (106.27) rounded out the top five.
On the women's side, the Lady Vols were ranked No. 8 nationally with 77.52 points. Tennessee also stood as the third-highest rated SEC program in the latest Division I Women's TFRI.
Additionally, the Vols and Lady Vols have totaled 18 marks that currently rank top 16 on the NCAA Division I national qualifying list this season:
