#19 Vols Take Down #16 Michigan State, 4-3

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 19 Tennessee men's tennis team pushed past No. 16 Michigan State, 4-3, on Friday night at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
UT (5-2) rallied to win back-to-back courts in doubles play to secure a 1-0 advantage heading into singles. Michigan State (4-2) earned a victory on court three, giving the Spartans early momentum. The Vols then fired off a comeback triumph on court one by No. 59 Alan Jesudason and Shunsuke Mitsui, as they defeated Ozan Baris and Mitchell Sheldon, 7-6(3). No. 21 Alex Kotzen and Alejandro Moreno followed with a battle to take down No. 66 Taym Alazmeh and Danial Rakhmatullayev, 7-6(3), to give the Big Orange the early lead.
With the momentum in their hands, Tennessee increased their lead thanks to Jose Garcia and No. 56 Moreno. The Knoxville natives each earned quick singles victories, with Garcia defeating Vuk Radjenovic, 6-3, 6-1, and Moreno taking down Alazmeh, 6-3, 6-0
No. 18 Mitsui delivered the clincher for the Vols on court two, earning a ranked win over No. 83 Max Sheldon, 6-4, 6-4. This triumph extends his unbeaten streak for the dual season, earning a perfect 6-0 record to date. Michigan State gained singles victories on courts one, three and six to end the match at a 4-3 tally.
SHUN MOVING UP
With his win on Friday, senior Shunsuke Mitsui has moved into sole possession of ninth place in school history for singles wins, totaling 113 in his career to date. The Shizuoka, Japan, native now sits two victories behind legendary VFL Paul Annacone (115) for eighth in the record books.
