
Men’s Tennis Central: #16 Tennessee vs. Elon and Penn

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 16 Tennessee men's tennis team will compete in its second doubleheader of the season, hosting Elon (10 a.m. ET) and Penn (3 p.m. ET) on Saturday at Barksdale Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
Most recently, the Vols (5-2) played host to No. 16 Michigan State, where the squad rallied to complete a 4-3 triumph at Goodfriend Tennis Center. The Big Orange came back to earn the doubles point and then proceeded to win three of the first four singles courts to clinch the match.
Senior Shunsuke Mitsui picked up his 113th singles victory for his career during the match, earning him sole possession of ninth place in school history for career wins.
SCOUTING ELON
Elon (0-1) opened their season earlier this week against VCU, suffering a hard-fought 4-3 loss.
Last year, Elon tallied a 16-8 record and made it to the CAA Championship match.
The Vols are 2-0 all-time against the Phoenix, with their wins coming in back-to-back years in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
SCOUTING PENN
Penn (5-0) has yet to lose a doubles match on the year, going a perfect 10-0. With their undefeated record through five matches, the Quakers have only lost six singles courts. Shaurya Bharadwaj is 5-0 during the spring campaign in singles matches, with wins coming on courts three, four and five.
During the 2023-24 season, they went 16-12 and tallied a 2-5 record in conference play.
Like Elon, Tennessee is a perfect 2-0 in its history against the Quakers. The two teams squared off last year, where UT came away with a 7-0 victory.
