Men's Tennis Central: #3 Tennessee vs. Alabama A&M

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Following a two-week layoff, the No. 3 Tennessee men's tennis team opens its run at an NCAA Championship with a first-round bout with SWAC Champion Alabama A&M on Saturday afternoon. First serve from Barksdale Stadium is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
Friday's match between the Vols and Bulldogs will be the second of a pair of matches hosted by Barksdale Stadium and will follow a first-round tie between Memphis and Georgia Tech at 10 a.m. ET.

TICKETING
This weekend's regional has a limited number of tickets available for pre-sale. Fans can purchase tickets at AllVols.com leading up to Saturday's first serve. Fans can also purchase a limited number of tickets that will be sold on-site. All on-site tickets will be cash only transactions.
Face coverings will be required for all fans and must remain on the entire time fans are on site, other than when actively eating or drinking—including all matches played outdoors.
In the event rain pushes play indoors, spectators will be limited to the friends and family on each programs' player and coach pass list.
LAST TIME OUT
Last time out, the Vols battled past top-ranked Florida, 4-3, in the championship match of the 2021 SEC Tournament.
The victory gave UT its 13th total SEC Championship title and fourth tournament crown in program history.
The Orange & White earned the win after securing a hard-fought-doubles point and increasing their lead to, 3-0, following straight-set singles victories from graduate student Giles Hussey on court five and freshman Johannus Monday on court two.
After the Gators battled back to knot the score at 3-3, junior Martim Prata used a massive break of serve at 6-5 in the third set to knock off No. 14 Andy Andrade, 7-6(3), 2-6, 7-5 to give Tennessee the SEC trophy.
SCOUTING ALABAMA A&M
Alabama A&M arrives in Knoxville on the back of its first-ever SWAC men's tennis championship. The Bulldogs took down in-state rival Alabama State, 4-3, in the tournament final to earn its first trip to the NCAA Men's Tennis tournament.
This will be the first meeting between the Vols and Bulldogs who became a Division I program in the Fall of 1998.
VOLS WHEN HOSTING AN NCAA REGIONAL
This will be Tennessee's 12th time hosting an NCAA Regional and the second time in as many NCAA Tournaments.
In those 12 years, the Vols have amassed an impressive 21-1 record and are currently riding a 20-match win streak when hosting the tournament's first and second rounds.
VOLS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Tennessee holds a 46-28 overall record in the NCAA tournament and a 28-9 record in the NCAA Regional rounds.
20 of the Vols 46 victories have come by shutout and three times, Tennessee has advanced to the NCAA Championship match.
VOLS IN THE NCAA SINGLES AND DOUBLES TOURNAMENT
The NCAA announced the fields for its individual singles and doubles tournaments on Tuesday afternoon.
The singles field features a trio of Vols, while the doubles tournament includes the Vols top doubles tandem.
In singles, the Vols will be led by the tournament's No. 8 seed, Johannus Monday. Also seeded, is senior Adam Walton and joining the pair was tournament at-large Martim Prata.
In doubles, the Australian tandem of Walton and junior Pat Harper will be the bracket's third overall seed.
Both competitions will begin on Sunday, May 23 following the conclusion of the NCAA team Championship on May 22.

A win would push the Orange & White to the NCAA second round for the third consecutive tournament and for the 18th time in their last 19 tournament appearances.
