No. 5 Vols Dominate No. 8 Texas A&M, 4-0, on Senior Day

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A dominant day across the board, led the No. 5 Tennessee men's tennis team to a, 4-0, senior day shutout of No. 8 Texas A&M on Sunday at Barksdale Stadium.
The win is UT's (21-3, 10-2 SEC) first victory over Texas A&M (14-7, 6-5 SEC) since 2013 when the Vols last advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament.
Sunday's triumph also cemented the Vols 13-0 home record, marking the first time Tennessee has finished the regular season with an unblemished home ledger since 2011.
In doubles play, the duo of graduate student Giles Hussey and senior Mark Wallner ripped past A&M's team of Pranav Kumar and Noah Schachter, 6-1, on court three.
UT's Aussie duo of senior Adam Walton and junior Pat Harper clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Juan Carlos Aguilar and Bjorn Thomson that saw the Vols tandem win the matches final three games, while earning a crucial late break of serve.
In singles action, freshman Johannus Monday kept the momentum going the Vols way as he cruised by No. 64 Aguilar, 6-1, 6-1, on court two to put Tennessee up, 2-0.
On court five, graduate student Luca Wiedenmann, knocked off No. 78 Pierce Rollins, 6-4, 6-4, in his final home regular season match on Rocky Top, extending the Tennessee lead to, 3-0.
With the match nearly clinched, junior Martim Prata battled through an opening set tiebreak, before dominating in the second set to walk away with a 7-6(3), 6-3 victory on court three to clinch match point at 4-0 with three matches still on court.
SHUTOUTS GALORE AT HOME
Sunday's victory was the Vols eighth shutout of the dual season, with all eight coming on home turf. The win was also Tennessee's third shutout in SEC play.
BARKSDALE AND GOODFRIEND PROVIDE FORTRESS FOR VOLS AND LADY VOLS
The Tennessee men's and women's tennis programs each went undefeated at home in the 2021 dual season, combining for a perfect record of 24-0. This is the third times both programs have won every home match in the same year, also doing so in 2001 and 2011.
LUCA DOESN'T LOSE…OFTEN
Luca Wiedenmann earned his 112th career singles victory as a member of the Orange & White on Sunday, moving into a tie for seventh on UT's all-time singles wins list with VFL Adam Carey. Wiedenmann's results this weekend also led him to a sparkling 10-2 record in SEC play, the best win percentage in conference action of his career (.833).

Tennessee will have over a week off, before traveling back to Fayetteville for the 2021 SEC Tournament. As the tournament's two seed, the Vols will begin their road to a conference crown in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday, April 21.
