LAST TIME OUT
On Friday afternoon, the fourth-ranked Vols battled to a 4-3 win over Auburn on the plains.
After falling in the doubles point for the second consecutive match, the Vols earned four dominant straight-set victories from freshman Johannus Monday, junior Martim Prata and graduate students Luca Wiedenmann and Giles Hussey.
Monday's victory kept him a perfect, 6-0, in SEC play, upping his singles record to 15-3 in duals and 24-5 overall.
SCOUTING ALABAMA
Tennessee leads the all-time series with Alabama, 45-15, dating to 1930. The Vols have dominated the series throughout, having lost back-to-back matches against the Tide only twice, most recently in 1992 and 1993.
UT is riding a four-match win streak in the series and has won 27 of the last 32 meetings dating to 1994.
The last time the squads met, the Vols rolled past Bama, 4-1, at the Goodfriend Tennis Center in 2019. It was a win in the midst of what would become a seven-match win streak to close the 2019 regular season dual match slate.
The Crimson Tide arrive at Sunday's match with graduate student Edson Ortiz as their lone ranked player. The Chihuahua, Mexico native sits at No. 89 in the ITA singles rankings.
HOW HIGH WILL LUCA GO?
Graduate student Luca Wiedenmann's singles victory placed him in sole possession of ninth on UT's all-time singles wins list with 107 career singles triumphs. A victory on Sunday would push him into a tie for eighth with VFL Boris Conkic.
With seven regular season matches remaining and the potential for nine postseason dual bouts ahead, Tennessee's tax man could potentially reach 124 career singles wins, which would place him fifth all-time in program history.
UP NEXT
Tennessee will take a break from SEC action next weekend with a Friday afternoon home contest against ACC member, Louisville. First serve from Barksdale Stadium is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
