In doubles, senior Emile Hudd and freshman Shunsuke Mitsui made the leap from No. 48 in the ITA Preseason Rankings to No. 6 in Wednesday's updated set of rankings. This was the third-largest jump among doubles pairs ranked in the preseason and final fall rankings.
The duo impressed in 12 matches together this fall, winning all but one, including a 6-4 decision over MTSU's Stijn Slump and Pavel Motl and a thrilling 6-7(3), 7-6(5), 10-5 victory over the previously fourth-ranked pairing of Daniel Rodrigues and Connor Thomson.
Six Vols landed in the singles top-125 rankings, highlighted by sophomore standout Johannus Monday at No. 10.
Monday, a 2021 ITA Singles All-American, 2021 SEC Freshman of the Year and ITA National Rookie of the Year, logged an 8-3 singles mark this fall. Four of his eight victories came against ranked opponents.
Monday is the nation's only preseason top-10 player to also finish the fall in the top 10 of the singles rankings.
Adam Walton is No. 39 in the updated rankings. The graduate student from Home Hill, Australia, won the 100thsingles match of his UT career on October 16, defeating Illinois' Olivier Stuart to etch his name forever in Tennessee history as the 11th Vol all time to accomplish this feat.
Coming in at No. 51 in the rankings is Hudd. The London, England, native is entering his first spring with the Big Orange and was 9-2 on the singles courts this fall. Each of his nine triumphs came in straight sets.
Mark Wallner is ranked No. 58, marking the highest ranking of his collegiate career. Freshmen Conor Gannon (No. 123) and Mitsui (No. 125) round out the latest edition of rankings. Gannon won 13 of his 20 matches in the fall, while Mitsui's 10-4 singles mark in fall play was highlighted by his run to the semifinals at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional.
