Mitsui and Hudd Advance to Round of 16 at ITA All-American Doubles Qualifying

TULSA, Okla. – A pair of doubles victories for the Big Orange duo of freshman Shunsuke Mitsui and senior Emile Hudd highlighted the first day of qualifying at the ITA All-American Championships for the Tennessee men's tennis team Monday.

In the qualifying round of 64, No. 48 Mitsui and Hudd defeated Texas' pairing of Braswell/McDonald, 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 to advance to the round of 32.

There, the Vols' duo earned a hard-fought victory over Zahraj/Hoogmartens (UCLA), 6-7(5), 6-1, 10-3. Hudd and Mitsui improved to 4-0 this fall as a doubles pair ahead of their round of 16 qualifying match Tuesday.

In singles action, Mitsui quickly dispatched Simon Junk (Ole Miss), 6-0, 6-3 in the qualifying round of 256.

Also in the qualifying round of 256, No. 95 Hudd dropped a three-set battle to Simon Arca Costas of Boise State, 7-6(3), 4-6, 1-6. Graduate student Mark Wallner was defeated by Arizona's Colton Smith, 1-6, 2-6, while freshman Conor Gannon fell to Welsh Hotard of Oklahoma, 5-7 4-6.

Tennessee's Johannus Monday and Martim Prata dropped their doubles round of 64 qualifying match, 3-6, 6-4, 6-10, to Arkansas' Reco/Rousset.

The Vols return to action Tuesday, with qualifying and qualifying consolation on tap.
