KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 18th-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team plays its home opener Saturday when it takes on New Mexico at 1 p.m. at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The Vols are coming off wins over Abilene Christian and No. 22 Oklahoma to start the season and begin an eight-match homestand Saturday.
Admission is free to all regular-season matches and parking is available in Lot N-12 which is located at the corner of Lake Avenue and Volunteer Boulevard. Live results will be available for the match by visiting the men's tennis schedule page on utsports.com or on Twitter (@vol_tennis).
Tennessee's clear bag policy will be in effect.
Tennessee (2-0) defeated Abilene Christian 7-0 last Friday before beating Oklahoma 4-3 on Sunday. Giles Hussey played a key role in UT's wins as he won both of his doubles and singles matches, including clinching the Vols' win over Abilene.
Luca Wiedenmann also keyed in Tennessee's defeat of Oklahoma, clinching the match with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win over No. 116 Jochen Bertsch.
SCOUTING THE LOBOS
New Mexico opens its season this weekend with the Vols on Saturday and Middle Tennessee State Monday. The Lobos went 14-8 in 2019 and rolled to an unbeaten 7-0 record in Mountain West play en route to the MWC regular-season title.
They return two key players from last season's squad in Dominic West and Stepan Hollis. Both earned Mountain West All-Conference honors a year ago and won 23 and 24 matches, respectively.
UP NEXT
Tennessee will play a doubleheader Monday beginning with Penn at 10 a.m. followed by The Citadel at 3 p.m.
