Three Vols Advance at Day One of Naples Futures, Wiedenmann's Regional's Run Ends

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Three Vols opened up with strong showings in the first qualifying round of the M25 Naples Futures, while senior Luca Wiedenmann finished an impressive run to the quarterfinals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships on Sunday.
Wiedenmann fell in straight-sets to the regions top-ranked player, Athell Bennett of Purdue, 6-3, 6-1.
In Naples, all three participating Vols advanced to the second round of the qualifying draw.
Junior Adam Walton continued his impressive fall season as he battled past Quinn Snyder in three-sets. After dropping the match's opening frame 6-3, Walton powered past Snyder 6-2 in the second, before eking out a victory in the third-set super-tiebreak 10-7.
Sophomore Martim Prata also needed a third-set super-tiebreak, when he took down David Fox. Prata, like Walton, fell in the opening set 6-3, before bouncing back to roll 6-3, 1-0 (10-5) to advance to the next round.
Graduate Student Giles Hussey closed the day for the Orange & White, with a dominant win in straight-sets over Shane Monroe 6-3, 6-2.
Hussey, Prata and Walton will continue play at the Naples Futures event with the second qualifying round tomorrow morning.
