Betsy is coming off of a breakthrough season last year in terms of best times. This season we are looking for her to have a similar breakthrough in the consistency of her confidence. She has shown a tremendous amount of ability and resilience, and has positioned herself to have a storybook season if her belief follows her ability.
AT TENNESSEE:
2006-07: Finished a successful season at the Bulldog Invite by posting a career best in the 100y fly at 56:07...Member of the victorious 200y medley relay and third-place 200y free relay teams versus Louisville...Added individual points with a tie for second in the 100y and sixth in the 200y fly events...At Minnesota, Lange set a career record in the 200y fly with a 2:07.82 and was fifth in the 100y fly...Contributions helped UT relay teams earn eighth-place showings in the 200y medley and 400y medley relay events...Member of the teams that were third in the 400y medley, fourth in the 400y free and fifth in the 200y free relay events...2005-06: Turned in season-best performances in the 100y butterfly and the 100y freestyle to conclude the season in fine fashion at the Bulldog Invite...Claimed runner-up honors in the 100y butterfly in Tennessee[apos]s campaign-opening triumph at Louisville...Registered a season-best 1:02.14 in the 100y backstroke versus the Cardinals, taking fifth place as result...The next day, Lange churned out a season-best 2:11.54 to take fifth in the 200y butterfly against Kentucky.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Lange was a three-time honorable mention All-American (2002-04)...Earned all-state accolades during that time frame and was an all-state qualifier on 10 occasions...Served as captain during her senior campaign at Hinsdale South High School and was selected as the team MVP twice...At the club level with the Fox Illinois Swim team, Lange was a U.S. Open qualifier and posted top-16 reportable times...Earned a spot on the academic honor roll all four years at HSHS, receiving a position on the dean[apos]s list twice.
PERSONAL:
Majoring in exercise science...Says competing at the U.S. Olympic Trials is her highest swimming ambition...Biggest influence on her was the toughness of rugby players...Her career objective beyond swimming is to help others and be a well-rounded person...Cites making the U.S. Open cut in March 2004 as the biggest thrill she has achieved...Has two siblings, Coleman and Maggie, both 18...Daughter of Keith and Alice Lange...Born Elizabeth Joy Lange on April 18, 1987, in Hinsdale, Ill.
