Men’s Tennis Central: Tennessee vs. #1 Wake Forest and #3 TCU

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Men's Tennis is set to face off against last year's national champion in No. 1 Wake Forest on Sunday, Jan. 19, at 2 p.m. ET. UT will also play against the national runner-up from last season, No. 3 TCU, on Monday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. ET. Both matches will take place at the Goodfriend Tennis Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Big Orange opened their season on Jan. 9 by sweeping a doubleheader against ETSU. Tennessee captured those wins by beating the Bucs, 6-1, in the first match and 5-2 in the second. The Vols won doubles points to open both matches and closed the contests out by claiming the first three singles finished.
SCOUTING THE DEACS
Wake Forest began the season ranked No. 1 nationally after winning an NCAA Championship last season. The Demon Deacons (2-0) began their campaign with a doubleheader sweep of their own with wins against Saint Joseph, 7-0, and ETSU, 4-0. Wake's roster contains four players ranked in the top 100 in singles and one doubles pair ranked in the top five.
The Vols lead the all-time series against Wake Forest, 15-7. Last season was the last time the two opponents faced off, with UT dropping the match, 4-0.
SCOUTING THE HORNED FROGS
Texas Christian University (1-1) is ranked No. 3 in the nation after falling in the national championship match against Wake in 2025. TCU split its first two matches of 2025-26, taking care of Abilene Christian, 7-0, and falling at home vs. No. 5 Virginia, 6-1, on Thursday. The Horned Frogs have five men ranked in singles and two tandems ranked in doubles.
In the all-time series with TCU, Tennessee holds a 7-4 edge. The last time the two played a match, the Big Orange lost a close one, 4-3, in 2024.

UT was selected as the No. 2 seed for the NC State Region. As a result, the Vols will play the No. 3 seed, Texas A&M, at 5 p.m. ET on Jan. 23. The match-up does not count towards conference play. Depending on the outcome, UT will face either NC State or Duke the next day.
