Tennessee Men’s Tennis Summer Update: Tennessee Representatives Take on National and International Stages

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee men's tennis will be well represented worldwide over the next few months as multiple Vols will take their talents to various pro tournaments.
Current and former Tennessee men's tennis players have already been very busy throughout the year with numerous tournaments having commenced thus far.
Below are updates from the Tennessee representatives and any upcoming tournaments they are set to compete in.
Current Vols
Filip Pieczonka
In his first summer tournament on the summer, Pieczonka reached the quarterfinal of the M15 in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, Poland. The rising sophomore eventually fell to Ignacio Monzon, 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-4. The Gdansk, Poland, native is right back to work and will compete in Koszalin, Poland, later this week. He has an ATP standing of 1400th in singles and 970th in doubles.
Shunsuke Mitsui
A recent All-American in singles, Mitsui sits at 789th in the ATP singles rankings and 474th in doubles. The rising senior is set to begin his summer campaign in the coming weeks.
Alex Kotzen
Kotzen, a November signee who will join the Vols for the 2024-25 campaign, has earned an ATP ranking of 935th. He will compete in his first pro event of the summer this week in Wichita, Kansas.
Former Vols
Blaise Bicknell (Fall 2021-Spring 2023)
Former Vol Bicknell is currently ranked 311th in the ATP singles rankings. He is set to compete in the Lima Challenger in Lima, Peru, later this week and will face Gonzalo Villanueva in the first round.
Angel Diaz (Fall 2021-Spring 2024)
A recent All-American in doubles, Diaz holds an ATP mark of 610th in doubles. He is set to start competing in tournaments in South America in the coming weeks.
Pat Harper (Fall 2018-Spring 2023)
A three-time doubles All-American and 2021 National Champion alongside Adam Walton, Harper is up to 271st in the ATP standings in doubles and recently reached the semifinals of the Tyler Tennis Championships in Tyler, Texas. He and his partner, David Stevenson, eventually fell to James Trotter and Hans Hach Verdugo, 6-4, 7-6(3). Harper is 16-11 in doubles on the year so far.
Emile Hudd (Fall 2021-Spring 2023)
A 2023 All-SEC First Team selection, Hudd currently holds an ATP standing of 684th in singles and 279th in doubles after recently making the semifinals of the M15 Celje in Celje, Slovenia. He eventually fell to Blaz Rola, 7-6(2), 6-3. He has a 21-7 record on this year's campaign so far in doubles with two title wins, and he is 17-10 this year in singles. The London, England, native just competed in the qualifying final at the Lima Challenger, defeating Guido Ivan Justo, 6-4, 6-2.
Giles Hussey (Fall 2019-Spring 2021)
Hussey, a two-year player for Tennessee, is currently placed with an ATP ranking of 360th in singles and 472nd in doubles. He currently is competing in numerous grass court challengers in the United Kingdom in preparation for a potential Wimbledon opportunity.
Boris Kozlov (Fall 2022-Spring 2023)
Kozlov has climbed up to 754th in the ATP standings for doubles. He recently competed in the UAMS Health Little Rock Open in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he made the quarterfinals with his partner Axel Nefve. He plans to compete in various future and challenger events across the country this summer.
Johannus Monday (Fall 2020-Spring 2024)
Fresh off finishing his career at Tennessee, the six-time All-American currently has an ATP ranking of 743rd in singles and 199th in doubles. He is set to begin his pro career towards the end of June.
Hunter Reese (Spring 2011-Spring 2015)
Reese, a 2014 National Champion alongside VFL Mikelis Libietis, reached the semifinals at the Zagreb Open in Zagreb, Croatia with his partner Scott Duncan. The VFL is 22-12 on the year, has an ATP ranking of 209th in doubles and is set to play in Lyon, France, later this week.
John-Patrick Smith (Fall 2007-Spring 2011)
A back-to-back SEC Player of the Year winner in 2010 and 2011, Smith will be in action later this week with his partner, Andreas Mies, at the Libema Open in Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. He sits at 62nd overall in the ATP doubles standings going into the tournament.
Timo Stodder (Fall 2015-Spring 2019)
Stodder is ranked 355th in the ATP singles rankings and is currently competing at the Poznan Open in Poznan, Poland.
Mark Wallner (Fall 2019-Spring 2022)
Wallner has made his way up to an ATP placement of 135th in doubles, and he recently reached the final of the Heilbronner Neckarcup in Heilbronn, Germany, alongside partner Jakob Schnaitter. The duo ended up falling in the final round, 7-6(5), 5-7, 10-3. The VFL has posted a 36-19 record on the year to date and is making a push for a top-100 ranking.
Adam Walton (Fall 2017-Spring 2022)
After winning the Santaizi ATP Challenger in Taipei, Taiwan, a few weeks ago, Walton cracked the ATP top-100 singles rankings for the first time, coming in at 96th overall. The Home Hill, Australia, native is 36-18 on the year. He most recently competed in the French Open last week, where he was defeated by Arthur Rinderknech, 6-2, 6-4, 7-5. Walton is currently preparing on grass courts for the Wimbledon Tournament.
Luca Wiedenmann (Fall 2016-Spring 2021)
A five-year player for the Big Orange, Wiedenmann recently won the M15 event in Hrastnik, Slovenia. He currently is sitting at 577th in the ATP singles standings and holds a 12-6 record on the year.
