Track Central: Bryan Clay Invitational / Tom Jones Memorial

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee track & field program will be represented coast-to-coast this weekend, with a group of distance runners in Azusa, California, for the Bryan Clay Invitational (April 13-15) and a crop of sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers and throwers traveling to Gainesville, Florida for the Tom Jones Memorial (April 14-15).
UT's reigning indoor 5k national champion Dylan Jacobs will kick off the weekend at Bryan Clay, running the men's invitational 10,000-meter at Cougar Athletic Stadium. The defending 10k NCAA champion and Bowerman watch list member will toe the line at 1:10 a.m. ET early Friday morning, making his outdoor track debut for the Big Orange.
Friday's competition in California includes Joe Hoots and Will Mazur running the men's invite 800m, while Callie Tucker, Andie-Marie Jones, Yaseen Abdalla, Nate Kawalec, Eli Nahom and Karl Thiessen will suit up for the 5,000-meter heats late Friday night.
Tennessee's contingent at the Bryan Clay Invite will wrap up Saturday night as Carolyn Barksdale, Brooke Dixon, Canaan Anderson and Yordanos Zelinski take on the 1,500-meter run.
In Florida, action begins Friday afternoon with Lady Vol graduate student Charisma Taylor competing in the women's invitational long jump at 2 p.m. ET. Day one concludes with the men's long jump at 7 p.m., featuring Vol freshmen T'Mars McCallum and Leonard Mustari.
The Lady Vol pole vaulting trio of Ellison Colarossi, Kendall Ford and Sarah Schmitt will lead off Saturday's action in the Sunshine State at 11 a.m., and the meet will conclude with two groups running the 4x400-meter relay at 6 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT: The Big Orange hosted its annual home meet, newly dubbed the Tennessee Invite, April 6-8 at Tom Black Track and came away with 11 event titles over the course of the competition. The depth of Tennessee's hurdle squad was on display with 1-2-3 podium sweeps in both the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles on the men's side.
Saturday night in Nassau, Bahamas, a pair of Tennessee freshmen secured medals at the 50th CARIFTA Games inside Thomas Robinson Track & Field Stadium. Lady Vol rookie Javonya Valcourt earned a silver medal in the U-20 women's 400-meter dash, running a Tennessee freshman record time of 52.12 in her home country. High jumper Brandon Pottinger also took the podium after tying for first on Saturday evening with a clearance of 2.00m (6-6.75).
RANKINGS UPDATE: In the latest installment of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) ratings index, the men of Tennessee checked in at No. 8 nationally and third in the South Region.
Through the first three weeks of outdoor track season, the Vols and Lady Vols have combined for 14 marks that rank inside the top-25 in the country:
