Tennessee went nearly nine full minutes (18:17 to 9:19) without missing a field goal, a stretch during which Gainey scored 14 of his game-best 15 first-half points on a 5-of-5 clip (four 3-pointers).

• Bryan Lentz, UT's director of player development, is the son of former Lenoir-Rhyne head coach John Lentz, who was Barnes' college roomate.
