Vols’ Comeback Falls Short in 4-2 Loss to #8 Georgia

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – A valiant comeback effort from the fourth-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team Sunday against No. 8 Georgia fell just short in a 4-2 loss at Barksdale Stadium.

Tennessee (14-5, 2-3 SEC) earned singles wins on courts two and six, while Adam Walton's match on court one went unfinished. Georgia (13-4, 5-1 SEC) won the doubles point with victories on courts three and two, before jumping out to a 3-0 lead after singles wins on courts three and five. Adam Walton and Pat Harper, the nation's 45^th-ranked doubles pairing, led 5-4 in a tiebreak on court two before that match went unfinished.

Senior #55 Emile Hudd earned the first point for Tennessee, with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory on court two over Georgia's #40 Philip Henning. Hudd wasted no time breaking Henning, earning the match's first break in the second game of the opening set.

Freshman Conor Gannon earned his fourth dual match singles win and first SEC win of the season, battling back for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory on court six to cut Tennessee's deficit to 3-2.

Georgia earned the clinching fourth point on court four, as #84 Trent Bryde outlasted Shunsuke Mitsui in the third set, 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2. Walton, holding the No. 18 singles ranking, led #19 Hamish Stewart of Georgia 3-1 in the third set before the match was clinched. Walton's match ended at 7-5, 6-7(4), 3-1, unfinished.
