Vols Wrap Up Play at ITA Ohio Valley Regional

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee men's tennis team's pairing of Shunsuke Mitsui and Angel Diaz concluded play at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Sunday by claiming victory in the doubles back draw final.

The duo defeated Chattanooga's Jacob Marshal and Ryan Mudre, 8-1 Sunday afternoon to finish the weekend with a 5-1 record in doubles action.

Prior to that match, Mitsui and Diaz took down Kentucky's Alex LeBlanc and Ying-Ze Chen in the back draw doubles semifinals, winning 8-7(4).

Mitsui's run in the singles main draw came to a close Sunday, as he dominated his quarterfinal match before falling in the semifinals. An early break set the tone for Mitsui in the quarterfinals, as he won all but one set on his way to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Vanderbilt's Jeremie Casabon (5).

The win advanced Mitsui to the main draw singles semifinal round, where his run ended against Gabriel Diallo (1) of Kentucky. A tightly contested first set saw Mitsui take the first two games, before eventually falling in the opening set and losing the match, 6-7(4), 1-6.
