February 28, 2021 | Men's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The third-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team rolled to victories in 14-of-14 sets on its way to a dominant, 7-0, shutout victory over Ole Miss on Sunday at Barksdale Stadium.
The win was Tennessee's (14-1, 3-0 SEC) sixth shutout victory of the year and marked the first time UT recorded a seven-point shutout over Ole Miss (3-5, 2-1 SEC) since 2010.
The Vols dominated doubles play as the tandems of graduate student Giles Hussey and senior Mark Wallner and junior Martim Prata and freshman Johannus Monday rolled to 6-1 and 6-3 wins respectively.
Hussey and Wallner have now won four consecutive matches and are 8-2 as a pair in dual play.
In singles, UT made quick work of proceedings. Monday dominated No. 62 Tim Sandkaulen, 6-3, 6-3, in straight sets to double the Vol advantage and earn his seventh victory over a ranked opponent.
Less than a minute later, junior Pat Harper knocked off Lukas Engelhardt, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6 to put UT on brink of match point.
Immediately following Harper, Hussey reeled off wins in 11 straight games after falling behind 4-1 in the opening set to take down John Hallquist Lithen, 6-4, 6-0 to clinch match point at 4-0.
Graduate student Luca Wiedenmann earned his 22nd consecutive singles win as he rolled past Simon Junk, 6-2, 6-3, to further increase the Tennessee advantage. Wiedenmann is now just one win away from moving into ninth on the programs all-time singles wins list.
On court three, Prata improved to 3-0 in SEC play with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Nikola Slavic.
Senior Adam Walton finished off the 14-set sweep, winning two hard-fought tiebreaks, 7-6(3), 7-6(2).
