LAST TIME OUT
Last time out, Tennessee battled past Mississippi State, 6-1, on Friday in Knoxville. Despite the lopsided final score, four tiebreaks were played in singles play and two matches went to third sets.
After winning the doubles point, the Vols earned hard-fought victories from graduate student Luca Wiedenmann, graduate student Giles Hussey and junior Martim Prata to clinch match point at 4-0.
The victory marked the first time UT had knocked off the Bulldogs in back-to-back meetings since 2013 and 2014.
SCOUTING OLE MISS
Sunday's matchup will be the second meeting between the Vols and Rebels this season and the 59th all-time meeting between the programs in a series dating to 1940.
Tennessee leads the all-time series, 30-28, and will be looking for its third consecutive win in the series.
The last time the programs met, the Vols pushed past the then-17th-ranked Rebels, 4-2, in the opening round of ITA Kickoff Weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina. After dropping the doubles point for the first time during dual play, UT needed wins from Hussey, Prata and senior Adam Walton to give them a slim 3-2 edge with two matches still on court.
On the brink of match point, Wiedenmann rolled past John Hallquist Lithe, 6-1, 6-1 to clinch match point for the Vols.
Ole Miss arrives in Knoxville with Tim Sandkaulen ranked 62nd in the ITA rankings, while Sandkaulen and doubles partner Finn Reynolds are the seventh-ranked doubles pair in the nation.
LUCA KEEPS ROLLING
Luca Wiedenmann's win streak came of legal age in Friday's win over Mississippi State, as he dominated Carles Hernandez, 6-4, 6-2 for his 21st consecutive win in singles play. Wiedenmann is now just two wins away from tying Mikelis Libietis for ninth on UT's singles wins list with 106 singles triumphs.
UP NEXT
Tennessee returns to court with a pair of SEC road matchups next weekend against South Carolina on Friday and Florida on Sunday. First serve on Friday is slated for 6 p.m. ET from Columbia and Sunday's match is set to get going at Noon ET from Gainesville.
