Men's Tennis Central: #3 Tennessee at #12 Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. – Riding a three-match win streak, the third-ranked Tennessee men's tennis team travels south to Athens, Georgia to open up SEC play against No. 12 Georgia on Friday afternoon. First serve from the Magill Tennis Complex is slated for 2:30 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT
Last time out, the Vols grinded out a 5-2 victory over Charlotte. On Wednesday afternoon in Knoxville.
After sweeping through the doubles point, the Vols earned straight-set victories from Luca Wiedenmann, Adam Walton and Andrew Rogers to secure match point at 4-0.
After the 49ers grabbed three first sets on courts two, three and four, the men from North Carolina took two of the three third set super tiebreaks, with Giles Hussey finishing off the afternoon with a three-set triumph on court four.
SCOUTING GEORGIA
Friday's match will be the 80th all-time meeting between Georgia and Tennessee on the courts in a series dating to 1963.
In those matches Georgia holds a 54-25 series edge and has won 11 of the last 13 meetings between the programs.
The last time the teams met, UT fell to the Bulldogs, 4-2, in Athens last season. After falling in the doubles point, Pat Harper and Rogers used straight set victories to give Tennessee a 2-1 advantage.
Georgia immediately bounced back and earned wins at No.'s 1, 2 and 3 to take the match.
Heading into Friday's match, Georgia boasts three singles players inside the ITA's Top-125 (No. 9 Trent Bryde, No. 18 Philip Henning, No. 73 Tyler Zink) and two doubles teams on the top-60 list (No. 8 Trent Bryde and Tyler Zink, No. 20Blake Croyder and Philip Henning).
THE SEC HONORS KEEP ON COMIN
For the third time in four weeks, Tennessee has swept the SEC's Weekly Awards. Graduate student Luca Wiedenmann earned his first SEC Player of the Week honoree of the season following two huge singles victories in UT's wins over No. 3 TCU and No. 5 Texas and freshman Johannus Monday won his fourth consecutive SEC Freshman of the Week Award after finishing the ITA Indoor National Championships with a 4-2 overall record.
UT has claimed seven of the eight available SEC Weekly Awards, with Monday capturing Freshman of the Week every week this dual season.
THE RANKINGS DON'T LIE
Tennessee is currently ranked third in the ITA Coaches Poll, jumping 10 spots since the initial rankings were released on Jan. 12. During that span, the Vols have knocked off five ranked opponents with three of those wins coming against teams in the top-10 and two inside the top-5.

Tennessee will take a week off, before hosting a full SEC weekend against Mississippi State on Friday, Feb. 26 and Ole Miss on Sunday, Feb. 28. First serve on Friday is set for 2 p.m. ET and Sunday's match is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
