Tennessee Rolls on Final Day of Fighting Illini Invitational

URBANA, Ill. – The Tennessee men's tennis team flexed its muscle at the Fighting Illini Invitational this weekend, wrapping up action with a 33-3 combined team record and a perfect 11-0 Sunday.
The Vols finished the three-day tournament with a 24-2 singles mark and won nine of 10 doubles matches.
Sophomore Johannus Monday took down Murphy Cassone (Arizona State) 7-5, 6-2 to earn his fourth singles win of the weekend and graduate student #5 Adam Walton was victorious over Nicola Cigna in three sets, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-2.
UT senior #29 Martim Prata handled Arizona State's Spencer Brachman in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. He wrapped up tournament play with a 3-1 singles record.
The Vols dished out a handful of bagels Sunday, with senior #95 Emile Hudd defeating George Stoupe (Arizona State), 7-5, 6-0, freshman Shunsuke Mitsui routing the Sun Devils' Jacob Bullard, 6-0, 6-3 and graduate student Mark Wallner trouncing Mattia Bernardi of MTSU, 6-1, 6-0.
Further singles action saw freshman Conor Gannon win 6-4, 6-4 over Illinois' Alex Petrov and junior Angel Diaz dispatched John Chin of MTSU, 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles, Hudd and Mitsui—3-0 as a pairing this weekend in Illinois—fended off Arizona State's Cassone/Bullard, 7-5. Monday and Prata also held an unblemished record of 3-0 in doubles this weekend, as they overpowered Stoupe/Brachman (Arizona State), 6-2. Walton and Wallner won 7-5 over Chin/Bernardi (MTSU).
