CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A clean sweep of doubles and seven straight set victories in singles action pushed the Tennessee men's tennis team through day one of the Tar Heel Challenge on Sunday in Chapel Hill.

In doubles play, the Vols came roaring out of the gates claiming four comprehensive wins.

The senior duo of Andrew Rogers and Mark Wallner dominated Charlotte's tandem of Olle Wallin and Vanja Dobrnjac, 8-2.

The duos of freshman Johannus Monday and junior Martim Prata and freshman Josh Raab and graduate student Luca Wiedenmann each earned 8-4 wins.

The team of graduate students Giles Hussey and Joel Gamerov battled past Charlotte's Ignasi De Rueda and Leo Menezes, 8-6 to close out the morning.

In singles play, Prata, Hussey, Wiedenmann, Rogers, Wallner and Raab breezed through their respective singles matches with none of them conceding more than six games in their straight set triumphs.

Wiedenmann's win was his 92nd career singles win, leaving him just eight wins shy of becoming the 10th Vol to eclipse 100 singles wins.

Monday was the final Vol off court to grab a win, knocking off Charlotte's Ben Wayand, 6-4, 7-5.

Tennessee will continue play at the Tar Heel Challenge tomorrow morning with doubles action against North Carolina.
