Men’s Tennis Central: No. 35 Georgia

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 10 Vols men's tennis team opens SEC play on the road Friday at No. 35 Georgia. Match time is slated for 2:30 p.m. ET.
The match will be played at Georgia's Dan Magill Tennis Complex with a live stream and live results available by visiting the men's tennis schedule at utsports.com.
Tennessee (11-1) enters the match having beaten the Bulldogs' in-state rival, Georgia Tech, 4-0 its last time out. The Vols are currently riding a five-match win streak and are off to their best start since the 2013 season when they opened the year 11-1.
With their shutout of Georgia Tech last Friday, the Vols have now blanked eight opponents this season. That is tied with the 2018 squad for the most shutouts in the last five seasons.
RANKED VOLS
In the latest round of ITA rankings, UT saw junior Adam Walton land at the No. 23 spot nationally in singles. The Home Hill, Australia native is 10-0 this spring, and on a career-long 10-match winning streak. He has faced four ranked opponents, defeating three of them, including then No. 6 Jack Lin from Columbia. Walton had one ranked match up this season go unfinished.
In doubles, Giles Hussey and Andrew Rogers find themselves at No. 52 in the nation. The graduate transfer and junior are 2-1 as a pair with all three matches coming at the No. 1 position.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Georgia enters the weekend at 5-2 overall, winning its last time out against Mercer, 7-0. The Vols and Bulldogs have two common opponents, Georgia Tech, who UGA beat on Feb. 2, 4-1 and Mercer. Both the Vols and Bulldogs swept the Bears. Georgia also faced No. 4 Texas on the road, giving the Longhorns a battle before falling, 3-4.
UGA has four players ranked in the ITA singles top 125 with Trent Bryde ranked the highest at No. 22. Philip Henning is 26th nationally, while Tyler Zink comes in at No. 72 and Blake Croyder rounds out the group at No. 95.
Two Georgia doubles teams are listed in the top 60 in the nation. Croyder and Henning are 22nd-ranked and the pairing of Bryde and Zink are 36th in the nation.
SERIES HISTORY
Friday will be the 79th meeting all-time between Tennessee and Georgia. The Vols trail in the series 25-53, but have won two of the last three. The last meeting took place in the second round of the 2019 SEC Championships where the Vols secured their first-ever sweep of the Bulldogs.
Tennessee's last trip to Athens in 2018 ended with the Big Orange coming from behind to defeat Georgia, 4-3.
