Vols Complete Gamecock Fall Invitational
October 04, 2020 | Men's Tennis
COLUMBIA, S.C. – A clean sweep of doubles and wins in six-of-eight singles matches against Kentucky, led the Tennessee men's tennis team through the third and final day of the Gamecock Fall Invitational.
"It was great to get out there and compete again," head coach Chris Woodruff said. "I think the event served a purpose and that was to play a lot of matches, to compete and to work and get better. On the performance of the guys, did we improve every day? Yes. Do we have things we have to work on? Absolutely, but we'll address those things and get back to work next week."
The Vols came roaring out of the gates in doubles action, winning all four matches on court. The results meant that six-of-eight UT players finished the weekend with 2-1 ledgers in doubles play.
In singles, UT kept the pressure going. Freshman Josh Raab completed his undefeated weekend in singles with an easy 8-2 victory over UK's Ying-Ze Chen.
Graduate student Joel Gamerov quickly followed Raab with an 8-4 victory of his own over Heman Nama.
Four more Vols closed out their own matches in straight-sets to finish off the morning and close out their first Fall tournament.
Graduate student Giles Hussey was dominant this morning, defeating Kentucky's Jonathan Sorbo 6-0, 6-0. Hussey also finished the weekend with a perfect 3-0 mark in singles play.
Seniors Luca Wiedenmann and Adam Walton backed up Hussey's performance as they took down Tate Sandman (6-2, 6-0) and Gabriel Diallo (6-1, 6-2) respectively.
Junior Pat Harper closed out the Vols victories with a 6-3, 6-3 dispatching of Alexandre LeBlanc. Harper was the third Vol to complete a 3-0 sweep of singles play down in Columbia.
Up Next
UT will take a three-week break, before taking the courts again in Starkville, Mississippi for the Bulldog Challenge from Oct. 23-25.
