MEN'S TENNIS CENTRAL: Tennessee Set for SEC Match Against No. 24 South Carolina

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee men's tennis is set for another top-25 matchup as the 22nd-ranked Volunteers host No. 24 South Carolina on Friday night. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
This will be the second match of a three match homestand for the Vols and the second of five-straight matches against ranked opponents.
Admission is free to all regular-season matches and parking is available in Lot N-12 which is located at the corner of Lake Avenue and Volunteer Boulevard. Tennessee (10-4, 1-2 SEC) dropped a hard-fought match to No. 12 TCU, 4-0, in its last time out. Five of the six singles matches against TCU went three sets with three matches going unfinished. Timo Stodder, ranked 59th nationally in singles, held a 3-0 lead in the third set against No. 7 Alex Rybakov when the match ended.
Likewise, Scott Jones held a 4-2 advantage in the third over No. 115 Reese Stalder when the halt came. Adam Walton, ranked 93rd in the nation, trailed No. 26 Alastair Gray, 1-2, in the third as play was stopped.
CHALLENGING THE BEST: Timo Stodder has been playing at the No. 1 court all season long and owns a 6-3 record in dual matches and a 13-5 record overall. The senior from Berlin, Germany has knocked off his last two ranked opponents and was on the verge of another top-10 win on Wednesday against Rybakov when the match ended.
AUSSIE POWER: Adam Walton has broken out in his second season on Rocky Top as he is ranked 93rd in the country and owns a 14-4 record this season with a 9-3 record in dual matches. The Home Hill, Australia native had a career long nine-match winning streak from January 19 through March 7 and was in a tight battle with No. 26 Alastair Gray from TCU on Wednesday but the match went unfinished.
SCOUTING THE GAMECOCKS: South Carolina (11-3, 1-2) comes to Knoxville after splitting its last two matches. Carolina defeated No. 40 Ole Miss, 4-3, before falling to No. 10 Mississippi State by a score of 4-3.
South Carolina has two singles players ranked in the ITA's top-125. Paul Jubb is the 12th-ranked player in the country while Daniel Rodrigues checks in at No. 88.
SERIES HISTORY: The series with the Gamecocks dates back to 1964 with Tennessee enjoying a 34-20 advantage all-time. Last season, Tennessee won at South Carolina, 4-2, but the Gamecocks have had the edge as of late, winning two of the last thee matches.
UP NEXT: The final match of the homestand comes on Sunday at 1 p.m. as the Volunteers welcome No. 9 Florida to Knoxville.
