Tennessee Takes Care of No. 24 South Carolina, 5-2

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee knocks off another top-30 opponent in No. 24 South Carolina, 5-2, on Friday night at Barksdale Stadium. It is the 22nd-ranked Vols third victory over a top-30 team this season.
Tennessee (11-4, 2-2 SEC) opened the night by winning the doubles point with victories on court one and three. On center court, the 36th-ranked combination of Timo Stodder and Preston Touliatos sliced through the duo of Paul Jubb and Raphael Lambling from South Carolina, 6-3.
The Big Orange clinched the doubles point on court three as Scott Jones and Pat Harper knocked off Beau Pelletier and Daniel Rodrigues, 7-5. The court two lineup of Martim Prata and Adam Walton went unfinished but were leading, 6-5, when the Vols clinched.
Jones continued his impressive night, picking up the Volunteers first singles win of the match with a, 6-1, 6-2, triumph on court three. The Perth, Australia native improves to 9-4 overall in dual matches this season and is now 2-2 in SEC play.
Prata and Luca Wiedenmann sealed the match for Tennessee within minutes of each other as Prata defeated Jake Beasley on court six, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1, to give the Orange and White a 3-1 lead. Wiedenmann closed it out on five with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1, win over Pelletier as the Vols clinched, 4-1.
South Carolina (11-4, 1-3) earned a pair of singles points with a win on center court as No. 12 Jubb defeated 59th-ranked Stodder, 6-4, 6-3. The second point came on court four as Brailovsky defeated Touliatos, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.
Walton closed out the night with a, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-1, win over the 88th-ranked Rodrigues, earning the Vols fifth point of the night. Walton ranks No. 93 in the nation and is now 10-3 in dual matches this season with a 15-4 mark overall.
