SOCCER CENTRAL: St. John's

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 25 Tennessee opens the 2018 soccer campaign Thursday, Aug. 16 as the Vols host the St. John's Red Storm. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Regal Soccer Stadium.
Admission and parking for all matches at Regal Soccer Stadium is free of charge. Gates open at 6 p.m.
Thursday's season opener will be streamed live on SEC Network+, available online and through the WatchESPN app. Additionally, live stats will be provided via SIDEARM Stats.
The first 250 fans in attendance will receive a voucher for one $1 hot dog. UT Fan Experience will also be putting on a free Kids' Corner prior to the match.
QUICK LOOK BACK AT 2017: Tennessee finished 15-4-2 (6-3-1 SEC) last season, setting a program record for the highest single-season winning percentage at .762. The Vols ended the year ranked No. 25 in the final United Coaches poll and No. 16 in the NCAA RPI.
All but three players from last season's NCAA Tournament squad are back on Rocky Top. All-American midfielder Katie Cousins returns alongside five All-SEC and/or United Coaches All-Region award winners (forward Khadija Shaw, defender Maya Neal, midfielder Anna Bialczak, forward Erin Gilroy and midfielder Rylie O'Keefe).
SEVEN VOLS ON SEC WATCH LIST: Tennessee led the Southeastern Conference with seven athletes named to the 2018 SEC Preseason Watch List. Anna Bialczak, Katie Cousins, Erin Gilroy, Maya Neal, Rylie O'Keefe, Khadija Shaw and Shae Yanez represented the Vols on the list, which recognizes the SEC's top talent heading into the 2018 campaign. COUSINS, SHAW RAKE IN PRESEASON HONORS: Vol standouts Katie Cousins and Khadija Shaw have been hauling in preseason awards over the past couple of weeks. Both have been named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List, the TopDrawerSoccer Preseason Best XI and the TopDrawerSoccer National Top 100 (Cousins No. 7, Shaw No. 14).
COACHES PREDICT VOLS 3RD IN SEC: UT was tabbed third in the annual SEC Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll. This marks Tennessee's highest ranking in the conference poll since also being selected third in 2013. (Read more)
SCOUTING THE JOHNNIES: Head coach Ian Stone enters his 25th season at the helm of St. John's soccer on Thursday. SJU was chosen sixth out of 10 in the BIG EAST preseason poll.
The Red Storm returns its leading scorer in senior forward Christina Bellero, who tallied a team-high 17 points and seven goals last season. 2017 BIG EAST All-Freshman selection Maia Cabrera also returns for SJU after recording 23 shots in her rookie campaign.
SERIES HISTORY: Thursday's meeting will be the first regular season match between Tennessee and St. John's. The Vols are 3-3-0 all-time against current members of the BIG EAST.
