Three Vols Capture Wins On Day Two Of Tennessee Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee registered three event wins and 13 top-five finishes during day two of competition at the Tennessee Relays on Friday at Tom Black Track.
Junior Maya Neal opened the day for the Vols by winning the heptathlon with a final score of 5,456 points, setting a personal-best and breaking her own Liberian national record in the process. Neal's score was the fifth-best in program history, and marked the first time that a Tennessee heptathlete scored above 5,500 since 1996.
Freshman Kiara Rhodes also competed in the women's heptathlon, finishing eighth with a score of 4,613.
Senior Cidae'a Woods claimed Tennessee's second win of the day, registering a distance of 6.34m (20-9.75) in the long jump. The win was Woods's second straight in the long jump at the Tennessee Relays, as she claimed last year's long jump title with a distance of 6.15m (20-2.25).
The Vols' third win came in the men's 1500m run, as junior Zach Long notched a new personal best of 3:45.51.
In the men's 100m dash, junior Mustaqeem Williams finished in third place and set a personal best, clocking in at 10.22. Kwantreyl McConico, running the 100m for the first time at Tennessee, came in sixth place in the event with a time of 10.35.
Junior Maia McCoy turned in a fifth-place finish in the women's 100m dash, setting a personal-best with a time of 11.31. That time tied for the eighth-best women's 100m time in program history.
In the women's 200m dash, Tennessee placed four in the top eight. Shania Collins took fourth (23.12), Lenysse Dyer came in sixth (23.28) while McCoy finished in seventh (23.34) and Felecia Majors grabbed eighth (23.36).
Tennessee found more success in the women's 100m hurdles, as freshman Alexis Duncan finished third with a time of 12.92.
The Vols also had solid showings in the field events on the men's side.
The men's shot put saw the Vols tally another top five finish and set a personal-best. Sophomore Joseph Maxwell came in fifth with a best throw of 18.73m, cracking the program top 10 list in the process (tied for eighth). Freshman Jordan West finished in sixth-place with a 18.67m throw.
In men's pole vault, Tristan Slater took second place with a vault of 5.05m (16-6.75).
Freshman Alex Crigger also gave the Vols another top-five finish in the men's 3000 steeplechase, notching a third-place finish in a time of 9:27.80.
Saturday, the third and final day of the 51st Tennessee Relays, will feature relays as well as the remainder of the field events. At approximately 2:10 ET, UT track alumni Justin Gatlin and Christian Coleman, along with Ronnie Baker and Mike Rodgers will lead America's Team sponsored by Pro Form Sports in the 4x100m relay, attempting to break the American record in the event.
