Vols Win Six Events to Open Meets in Virginia, California

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The Tennessee track and field program won a combined six events to open a split squad weekend at the Virginia Challenge and the Mt. SAC Relays.
The Vols picked up a pair of pole Vault wins at the Virginia Challenge: Tristan Slater in the men's invitational and Hannah Jefcoat in the women's open. UT's four wins at the Mt. SAC Relays included: Alexis Duncan in the 100-meter hurdles and Felecia Majors in the 400m for the women and Nathan Strother in the 400m and Kwantreyl McConico in the 100m for the men.
VIRGINIA CHALLENGE: Tennessee won a pair of pole vault contests to open the Virginia Challenge at Lannigan Field.
Freshman Hannah Jefcoat won her first career outdoor pole vault competition, clearing a season-best 3.86m (12-8) in the open division.
Sophomore Tristan Slater closed the day with a victory in the men's pole vault invitational. He cleared 5.06m (16-7.25) to match a season best.
Junior Nate Harper recorded a collegiate-best in the pole vault with a clear of 4.66m (15-3.5), tying for second place. Freshman Jalen Tate also recorded a career-best in the triple jump with a mark of 14.98m (49-1.75) in eighth place.
Junior LaChyna Roe landed her longest wind-legal triple jump of the season, taking fourth place with a leap of 12.94m (42-5.5). The distance ranks second in program history.
Tennessee's long distance group will be in action all day Saturday beginning at 10:55 a.m. with the men's 1500m. The Vols jumpers and heptathletes will also be back on the track for long jump, high jump and hurdles.
MT. SAC RELAYS: The Vols won four open events to start the Mt. SAC Relays at Murdock Stadium in Torrance, California.
Sophomore Alexis Duncan led off the day with a victory in the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.24 seconds, her fastest wind-legal time of the year and the fourth-fastest time in program history.
The Vols went 1-2 in the women's 400m with senior Felecia Majors (53.30) and junior Lenysse Dyer (53.32). Both were season bests.
Senior Nathan Strother won the men's 400m (45.88), his second victory in the event in his final outdoor season.
Later in the session, junior Kwantreyl McConico won the 200m in 20.91. He also finished second in the 100m with a career-best time of 10.30.
