NO. 7 TENNESSEE DEFEATS UNLV, 3-0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.
Senior midfielder Kayla Lockaby scored two goals and freshman striker Emily Redberg added a goal and an assist, leading the seventh-ranked Lady Vols to a 3-0 victory over UNLV, on Sunday at the UT Soccer Complex.
"I am very pleased with our performance today," said Lady Vol Head Coach Angela Kelly. "This afternoon we got numbers up on the attack and we created numerous scoring opportunities and took advantage of them."
The onslaught began just 15:30 into the match, when senior midfielder Sue Flamini (Cranford, NJ), stole the ball around midfield and launched a deep pass into the box. Redberg (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) corralled the pass and was one-on-one with Rebel goaltender Jenna Huff, putting the Lady Vols on the board.
Lockaby (Hamilton, Ohio), scored the first of her two goals 15 minutes later, finding a loose rebound in front of the UNLV goal and hammering it home. Senior forward Lyndsey Patterson (Puyallup, Wash.) set up the play, firing a shot that beat Huff to her right, only to ricochet off the goalpost, landing happily at the feet of Lockaby for a two-goal Lady Vol lead.
Lockaby iced the match late in the second half, scoring her second goal of the contest on a very pretty play. Redberg collected a pass just outside the box, and back-heeled a superb pass to Genna Gorman (Lakewood, Colo) streaking down the left sideline. The freshman forward made two touches and sliced the ball back to Redberg, drawing the attention of Huff. The forward then snuck a pass over to a wide-open Lockaby, who buried the ball in the back of the net.
The three-goal cushion was more than ample for junior goalkeeper Vanessa Phillips-Bosshart (Vernon, Conn.) posting her third shutout of the season, while making five saves in the game. The biggest save of the match however, was made by senior All-America defender Keeley Dowling. Just three minutes into the second half, UNLV forward Annii Magliulo dodged Phillips-Bosshart attempting to make a play on the ball, and found herself alone in front of the Orange net. Magliulo got some foot on a shot, but a sliding Dowling removed the ball from harm's way, preserving the shutout
Tennessee out shot the Rebels 14-9, while Huff recorded six saves in the loss.
"We played a great game today," said Kelly. "We are looking forward to opening SEC (Southeastern Conference) play next weekend. Conference play is when our season truly starts."
The Lady Vols SEC slate begins with two dates this week in Mississippi, facing MSU on Thursday, Sept. 24, in Starksville, and then traveling to Oxford for a Sunday meeting with Ole Miss. Live stats will be available for both contests at www.utladyvols.com
