PATRICK ON FLYNN:
'Mindy has been a stalwart in our lineup and integral to our successes over the past few years. It was not a coincidence that the level of our play dipped last year when she was injured. Mindy is able to play any of the front three positions as well as contribute in the back row. We are excited to get her back on the court this year because her high volleyball IQ really helps to raise the level of our total team play.'
2007 (JUNIOR):
Started 12 matches for the Lady Vols in 2007 despite missing the final 16 contests of the season due to injury...Played in seven games over the span of two matches at the AVCA Showcase in Omaha, Neb., recording five kills, 29 attacks, two digs, nine blocks and one assist...Picked up her play at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic, hitting .484 over the course of the three-match tournament...Posted a career high .700 (8-1-10) mark in the championship match against Indiana...Put together a strong performance against Marquette at the State Farm Illini Classic, tallying season highs with 12 kills and 26 attacks...In the opening weekend of SEC action, she amassed 22 kills in two matches, including a season-high 16 in UT[apos]s 3-1 victory over Mississippi State....Reached double-digits in kills twice more the following weekend with 13 in a 3-1 triumph at Auburn and 10 at Georgia.
2006 (SOPHOMORE):
Was the only Lady Vol to play in all 119 games during the 2006 season...Tied for second on the team in blocks with 135 and fourth in kills with 248...Ranked ninth in the SEC with an average of 1.13 blocks per contest...Her career mark of 1.01 places her fourth all-time in the UT record books...Posted double-digit kill totals in nine matches, including three of the team[apos]s final four contests...Named MVP of the Comcast Lady Vol Classic after recording 25 kills with just one attack error in 53 attempts (.453 hitting percentage) over the course of the three-match tournament...Had a terrific night against the Wildcats in her home state of Kentucky on Oct. 11, posting then career-highs with 15 kills, 31 attacks and 10 blocks...Moved her game to another level toward the end of the season, surpassing her career-high kill total in consecutive matches, with 18 against No. 7 Florida on Nov. 17 and 22 in a four-game victory over Auburn in the squad[apos]s final regular-season match...Tallied 11 putaways in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against Duke...Traveled to Italy and Croatia with the USA/Bring it Promotions u20 Development Team to compete in the 2007 European Global Challenge, July 22-26.
2005 (FRESHMAN):
Steadily progressed throughout the year as she gained match experience...Saw action in 23 contests, earning two starts...Recorded a block assist in her first collegiate appearance, a 3-0 UT win at Lipscomb...Had five kills and two digs in a road match at LSU on Sept. 25...Earned three kills in UT[apos]s 5-0 run to end its 31-29, 31-29, 30-28 win at Kentucky on Nov. 6...Sent five South Carolina attacks back over the net in a three-game sweep of the Gamecocks on Nov. 9...Tallied a career-high .467 (8-1-15) hitting percentage versus Alabama two days later...Put up back-to-back seven-kill matches against Mississippi State and Alabama on Nov. 18 and 19, respectively...Set a personal kill record in the Lady Vols[apos] dramatic 3-2 win at No. 7 Notre Dame on Nov. 26...Contributed four kills, three blocks and a dig in UT[apos]s NCAA First Round victory over Jacksonville State...Added three kills, three digs and three blocks in a comeback win against defending NCAA National Finalist No. 17 Minnesota...Blocked a career-high seven attacks in the Big Orange[apos]s 3-1 win at No. 2 Penn State in the NCAA Regional Semifinals...Had a solid performance in the NCAA Regional Finals win over No. 8 Missouri with six kills, two digs and five blocks...Collected a kill and three blocks in the Lady Vols[apos] season-ending loss to eventual national champion No. 3 Washington in the NCAA National Semifinals in San Antonio, Texas.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Played with the Kentucky/Indiana Volleyball Academy from 1998-05...Named an AAU All-American in 2003...Played four seasons with duPont Manual High School and served as captain for one...Earned all-state honors from 2002-05...Also named all-district and all-region in both 2003 and 2004...Earned honor roll mention.
PERSONAL:
Is majoring in audiology and speech pathology...Highest athletic ambition is to win a national championship...Biggest thrill was achieved with a national championship win in AAU play in 2003...Enjoys shopping, watching movies and sleeping...Also considered Cincinnati, Western Kentucky and Saint Louis before deciding to come to UT...Chose Tennessee because it is a rising program, plays in an excellent conference, has a great coaching staff, the history of the school and the support for women[apos]s athletics...Biggest sports influence is her dad, who always encouraged her and was there to drive Flynn to practices...Models herself athletically after former Louisville volleyball player Emily Roberson...Admires actress Julia Roberts...Goal outside of volleyball is to become a speech pathologist...Has a sister, Benny, 26, and two brothers, Arno, 24, and, Alec, 18...Benny played volleyball at Louisville...Mindy Rae Flynn, the daughter of Edward and Mary Flynn, was born on Aug. 28, 1986, in Louisville, Ky.
