Jose Garcia Collects Sixth Consecutive Singles Win, But Vanderbilt Prevails, 4-2
February 23, 2026 | Men's Tennis
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Jose Garcia collected his sixth consecutive singles win, but Tennessee (6-6, 0-2 SEC) dropped an SEC contest at Vanderbilt (9-3, 1-1 SEC), 4-2, on Monday.
The Vols started out the doubles portion with a quick win on court three when the tandem of Jan Kobierski and Alejandro Moreno bested Vanderbilt's duo of Hugo Coquelin and Jack Satterfield, 6-2. UT dropped the next two, losing on doubles courts two and one, which resulted in VU capturing the doubles point.
Vanderbilt opened up singles with a win on court four from Nathan Cox defeating Jan Kobierski, 6-2, 6-1. The Big Orange responded when Jose Garcia took down Danil Panarin, 6-1, 6-2, putting UT on the scoreboard. VU pushed its lead to two with a Pablo Martinez Gomez victory over Dragos Cazacu, 6-2, 6-2. The Vols made things interesting when Boruch Skierkier's took care of Jack Satterfield, 6-3, 6-4, to cut the lead to one, but the Dores never let up after that, closing out the match with a three-set winner on court one.
Shion Itsusaki's match versus Hugo Coquelin was abandoned at 4-5 after the clinch from the Commodores, meaning the freshman is still undefeated in singles during the dual season.
UP NEXT
The Vols will start a three-match homestand with a contest against Auburn on Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. ET, and then the Big Orange will play a doubleheader against Oklahoma and Belmont on March 1.
CONTINUING TO STAY HOT
Jose Garcia's career-best six match win streak has propelled him to be the winningest Vol this season with 13 victories. Garcia has been on a tear in singles recently, dropping only two sets in the past six matches.
TRANSLATING WELL
After his time at the NCAA Division II level, Boruch Skierkier has settled in nicely in DI competition, winning 12 total singles matches with an 80 percent winning percentage. Skierkier has been productive across multiple courts, with wins on courts four, five and six.
