November 21, 2025 | Volleyball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The #18 Tennessee volleyball team officially gets its postseason underway this weekend, traveling to Savannah, Georgia for the SEC Volleyball Tournament. This is the first conference tournament in 20 years, ending a 20-year hiatus since it was last played in 2005.
The Lady Vols enter with a 19-6 record and 10-5 in the SEC. By finishing in fourth place, Tennessee earned a double bye and will begin play on Sunday. Tennessee will await the winner between Florida or winner of the Alabama-South Carolina match. Sunday's match will be televised on SEC Network and will begin 30 minutes after the first quarterfinal match.
Tennessee has appeared in 27 SEC Tournaments in its history, holding a record of 29-24 all-time. The Lady Vols have been tournament champions four times, with tournament crowns in 1981, 1982, 1984, and 2004. They have also had four runner-up performances, doing so in 1979, 1980, 1983, and 1988. Three Lady Vols have earned Tournament MVP honors, with Beverly Robinson (1982), April Chapple (1984), and Amy Morris earning the honors while helping lead the team to tournament championships. Tennessee's last SEC Tournament appearance came in its final year of existence in 2005, reaching the semifinals. Two-time All-American setter Julie Knytych earned All-Tournament Team honors in 2005 after finishing with 85 assists, 19 digs, six kills, and four digs.
Tennessee faced all three of its possible opponents for the quarterfinals this season. Tennessee and Florida met back on Oct. 15 in Knoxville, with Florida edging out a five-set victory. The Lady Vols and the Crimson Tide met on Oct. 24 in Tuscaloosa, with Tennessee taking a four-set road win. South Carolina and Tennessee met in the opening weekend on Sept. 26, with the Big Orange notching the sweep over the Gamecocks in Knoxville.
Tennessee comes into the tournament after a four set victory over Oklahoma on senior day. Hayden Kubik and Starr Williams led the team offensively, finishing the match with 20 and 19 kills respectively. Mackenzie Plante led the team with a career-high four aces, adding nine kills and six digs. The win also marked head coach Eve Rackham Watt's 150th of her career.
A trio of Lady Vols earned All-SEC honors earlier this week. Caroline Kerr and Hayden Kubik each were named First Team All-SEC, while redshirt freshman middle blocker Zoë Humphrey was named to the All-Freshman Team. Kerr earned her third consecutive All-SEC honors, becoming the first Tennessee athlete to do so since Nikki Fowler from 2008-10. Kerr led the team in assists during the regular-season with 817 and assists per set at 9.84, both running top ten in the SEC. Kubik garnered All-SEC honors after a career year offensively. The West Des Moines, Iowa native had a team leading 338 kills, with her 4.23 kills per set and 4.67 points per set ranking seventh and eighth in the conference. Humphrey finished her first regular season on Rocky Top ranking second on the team with 67 blocks and added 75 kills. One of the top freshman seasons for Tennessee, Humphrey ranks second amongst Tennessee freshmen with a .400 hitting percentage and fourth at 1.06 blocks per set.
