#18 Lady Vols Collect Four-Set Win over Florida in SEC Tournament Quarterfinal

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The fourth-seeded Tennessee volleyball team earned a four set win over fifth-seed Florida in its first match of the SEC Volleyball Tournament (25-27, 27-25, 25-22, 25-19).
Tennessee (20-6, 10-5 SEC) finished the match with 57 kills on .262 hitting, assisting 54 of its 57 kills on the afternoon. The Big Orange defense tallied 10 blocks and 64 digs, while holding the Gators (15-11, 9-6 SEC) to just a .179 hitting percentage.
Three Lady Vols had double-figure kills, led by senior outside hitter Hayden Kubik with 15. Kubik also notched her sixth double-double of the season with 11 digs and also added three blocks. Starr Williams had her fourth 10-plus kills performance in her last five matches with 14. Chelsea Sutton led the team in blocks with five, while finishing with 10 kills on an impressive .318 hitting percentage.
Caroline Kerr once again had the team lead in assists, finishing with 43 in the match. Kerr did work on the defensive end as well, with ten digs for her ninth double-double of the season. Gülce Güçtekin had a team-leading 19 digs and tied her season high with eight assists, while Mackenzie Plante enjoyed an all-around effort with 14 digs and eight kills.
It was a back and forth first set with 14 ties and six lead changes. Tennessee took a three-point advantage late in the set, but Florida would be able to comeback to take an early one set lead. Sutton got the attack started with six kills, followed by Williams with four. Kerr logged nine assists, while Güçtekin put in a team-high seven digs.
It was a hotly contested second frame as well, with 11 more ties and five lead changes. Florida would get out to a six-point lead, but it was Tennessee's turn to mount a comeback, tying it late and finishing the set to even the match at one apiece. Plante led the team with five kills in the second, also adding three digs. Kubik had the high dig mark in the frame with five, while Kerr compiled nine more assists.
Tennessee would need to fight back again in the third, with Florida once again racing out to an early lead. Down 18-14, the Lady Vols would use a 5-0 run to take control of the set. Williams paced the offense with seven kills on a .700 hitting percentage. Kerr assisted 15 of the team's 17 kills in the third, a big part of their .342 hitting in the third stanza.
It was all Lady Vols in the fourth, never trailing as they closed the match to earn the victory. Kubik closed with a strong six kills, while Kerr put up 10 assists in the final set. The Tennessee defense played a big role in the fourth set triumph, holding the Gators to .103 hitting.
Up next, the Lady Vols continue their journey in the SEC Tournament, as they meet one-seeded Kentucky in the semifinals on Monday. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast nationally on SEC Network.
