#19 Lady Vols Offense Shines in Four Set Win Over Oklahoma on Senior Day

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The #19 Lady Vols celebrated their seniors with a commanding win in Sunday's match against Oklahoma at Food City Center (25-11, 25-15, 21-25, 25-19). With the win, Tennessee secured the four seed in the SEC Tournament.
During their senior night, the Big Orange (19-6,10-5 SEC) secured an impressive 62 kills on a .402 hitting percentage, with 56 of them being assisted, to go along with seven aces. On defense, the team picked up 47 digs and 10 blocks, holding the Sooners (15-10, 7-8) to only 39 kills on .153 hitting.Â
Tennessee reached many milestones during the contest, starting with Head Coach Eve Rackham Watt's 150 career wins. Junior outside hitter Mackenzie Plante earned a new career-high of four aces, to go along with her nine kills, six digs, three assists and one block.Â
Redshirt-senior opposite hitter Starr Williams put up a dangerous 19 kills for the team, gaining a new season-high, while also adding three blocks and a dig. Senior libero Gülce Güçtekin amassed a season-high eight assists, while adding a team leading 12 digs and one ace. Redshirt-senior middle blocker Klaudia Pawlik notched a season-high of six blocks, while also contributing three kills.
The Lady Vols came out hot in the first stanza, holding Oklahoma to only 11 points. The team finished with 16 kills on .583 hitting, 13 digs, four aces and two blocks. Kerr got her match started with nine assists, two digs, one block, one ace and a kill, making plays all over the court. Plante and Kubik led the team by adding four kills each, while Güçtekin clutched six digs and an ace. The Big Orange had multiple scoring runs, including a 6-0 run, which took it away with a 13-3 lead.Â
Tennessee continued its momentum moving into the second frame, dominating the Sooners 25-15. Williams took control on offense, picking up 10 kills during the set. Kubik added another seven kills and two digs, while Kerr made 11 more assists and Plante clutched two aces for the team. The Lady Vols closed with another 16 kills for a .531 hitting percentage and made huge defensive moves, keeping Oklahoma to almost a negative hitting percentage.Â

Tennessee forced seven tie scores and two lead changes, gaining 15 more kills, but their errors held them back from the sweep. Kerr continued her well-rounded play to add 10 assists, two digs and two kills while Kubik secured another six kills for the team.

Thanks to a huge block by Pawlik to tie her season high, the Lady Vols took a 5-0 scoring run advantage and never looked back. Kerr assisted 11 more kills and two digs, while Plante had four kills, and Kubik followed with three.
