Softball Preview: #9 Lady Vols Hit the Road to Face #8 Clemson

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Facing a quick turnaround following the Tennessee Classic, the ninth-ranked Lady Vols are set to face No. 8 Clemson on Tuesday afternoon at McWhorter Stadium in Clemson, South Carolina.
Originally scheduled for 6 p.m. ET – the game time has been moved up to 2 p.m. due to expected inclement weather.

Back in the friendly confines of Sherri Parker Lee Stadium for the first time in 2024 this past weekend, the Lady Vols' bats came alive. Tennessee hit .378 as a team and clubbed 13 home runs over five games.
UT won three of its five games by the run-rule.
MILLOY MAGIC
Graduate Kiki Milloy caught fire during Tennessee's homestand – going 8-for-10 (.667) at the plate with 10 runs scored, a triple, four home runs and six RBIs. The Woodinville, Washington, native was also 7-for-7 on stolen bases over the weekend – and is now just 14 away from becoming UT's all-time stolen bases leader.
This season, Milloy leads the SEC and ranks 15th nationally in stolen bases per game with a 0.75 mark.
EASY PICKENS
Sophomore pitcher Karlyn Pickens breezed through the Tennessee Classic, making three appearances with two starts. She picked up three wins – which included a pair of complete-game shutouts – and allowed just three hits over 14.2 innings of work.
The right-hander did not allow a run over the weekend as she fanned 18 batters and walked only three.
Pickens ranks seventh in the SEC in strikeouts with 54 but is third in the league in strikeouts per seven innings at 9.9. Her strikeout-to-walk ratio is 6.75 – good for seventh in the conference.
LOVING THE LONG BALL
Through 17 games this season, the Lady Vols are loving the long ball – hitting 1.56 home runs per game. That mark ranks seventh nationally and is second in the SEC.
PITCHING LEADS THE WAY
The Lady Vols' pitching staff of Payton Gottshall, Karlyn Pickens, Charli Orsini and Ryleigh White has been stout to open the year. As a group, they hold a 1.50 ERA – the mark is third-best in the conference and ranks eighth in the nation.
Pickens and Gottshall have carried the load early on and hold ERAs of 0.93 and 1.56, respectively.
