#6 Vols' Win Streak Ends at Nine with 3-1 Loss at Georgia
May 06, 2023 | Baseball
ATHENS, Ga. – No. 6/18 Tennessee had its nine-game win streak snapped in a 3-1 loss at Georgia on Saturday afternoon at Foley Field.
The Bulldogs' pitchers were able to cool off the Vols' bats for the first time in a few weeks, as UT left 10 runners on base and was just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.
Maui Ahuna and Christian Moore both had a pair of hits while Hunter Ensley scored the team's only run and extended his hit streak to nine games with a single in the seventh inning.
Chase Dollander gave the Vols six quality innings on the day despite having to work out of trouble on multiple occasions, finishing with six strikeouts while allowing three runs on eight hits.
Five relievers combined to pitch the final three innings for Tennessee, allowing just two hits between them.
Freshman Jarvis Evans was fantastic for Georgia, tossing 5.1 innings before exiting the game with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth after being called into duty on short notice when starter Charlie Goldstein had to leave the game with an injury after facing just one batter. The lefty surrendered just three hits and two walks while striking out seven to earn the win.
Reliever Chandler Marsh walked in a run but was able to limit the damage in that sixth inning by retiring the next two batters to strand the bases loaded.
The duo of Charlie Condon and Connor Tate powered the offense for UGA, combining for four hits, two runs and three RBIs. Condon hit his 20th home run of the year with a solo shot in the fifth to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead that held for the remainder of the afternoon.
Leighton Finley locked down his fourth save of the season for Georgia (26-21, 9-14 SEC) with a scoreless ninth inning despite giving up two hits.
UP NEXT: Tennessee (32-15, 12-11 SEC) will look to secure its first road series win in Sunday's rubber game, which is slated to start at 1 p.m. and will be streamed on SEC Network+ through the ESPN app.
