PREVIEW: NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships
March 14, 2023 | Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Seventh-ranked Tennessee women's swimming & diving is set to compete in the 2023 NCAA Championships, which is being hosted at the University of Tennessee's Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center on March 15-18.
All meet information, including schedules, tickets, heat sheets/results, streaming links, parking and fan policies, can be found on the 2023 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships Central page.
Every session of the meet will be streamed on ESPN+, and fans can also follow along with live results online or by using the Meet Mobile app.
The Lady Vols boast 13 qualifiers, including 10 swimmers and three divers. UT was one of nine schools with double-digit swimmers to qualify and just one of three SEC squads to eclipse that margin.
Three Tennessee swimmers received invites for three individual events, led by junior Mona McSharry. The Sligo, Ireland, native is coming off a huge performance at the SEC Championships, sweeping the breaststroke events and winning silver in the 50 free. She will look to repeat her success in those events once again at NCAAs, entering as a projected A finalist in all three events. She owns the No. 2 and No. 3 qualifying times in the 100 breast and 200 breast, respectively.
The sophomore duo of Josephine Fuller and Sara Stotler also punched their ticket in three events. Like McSharry, Fuller is projected to be an A finalist in all three of her events with the No. 4 qualifying time in the 200 back, and the eighth-best marks in the 100 back and 200 IM. At SECs last month, she won silver in all three events. Stotler will compete in both butterfly events as well as the 200 IM. She was an A finalist at the SEC Championships in all three and won bronze in the 200 fly.
Overall, the Lady Vols enter the NCAA Championships with 10 qualifying efforts that project as A final times. Sophomore Brooklyn Douthwright boasts the top overall seed heading into the 200 free thanks to a 1:42.45 mark. She will also compete in the 100 free.
In the distance events, Kristen Stege (500 free, 1650 free) and Alyssa Breslin (1650 free) are both projected to finish in the top final. Stege owns the third-fastest qualifying time in the 500 free and the No. 5 time in the mile. She won silver and bronze, respectively, in those events at the SEC Championships last month. Breslin brought home silver in the 1650 free and boasts the fourth-best qualifying time for NCAAs.
Eight swimmers qualified for multiple events. Kate McCarville (500 free, 1650 free) owns the No. 13 time in the 500 free, projecting as a B finalist. Elle Caldow (100 back, 200 free) and Julia Mrozinski (200 free, 500 free) round out the group. The event with the most UT qualifiers was the 1650 free, as Claire Nguyen joins Breslin, McCarville and Stege.
In diving, Grace Cable will take on the 3-meter event, while Tanesha Lucoe and Maddie Reese will compete on the platform.
