Men’s Tennis Central: Knoxville Showdown
September 14, 2022 | Men's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee men's tennis takes the courts at Barksdale Stadium this weekend for its first home action of the fall, the Knoxville Showdown. The event is set to run Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 15-18.
The Vols will serve host to Columbia, Illinois, MTSU and North Carolina in the Vols' second tournament of the fall slate. The event includes free admission for all spectators.
At the Orlando Fall Shootout to open fall competition last weekend, five Vols—Blaise Bicknell, Gabriele Brancatelli, Kent Hunter, Boris Kozlov and Tomas Rodriguez—made their Tennessee debuts. Tennessee also returns six members of its active 2021-22 roster to the 2022-23 squad.
The Vols logged 20 total victories in Orlando—15 in singles and five on the doubles courts.
Hunter, Kozlov and Rodriguez each logged a team-best three singles victories in Orlando, while the pairs of Hunter/Mitsui and Bicknell/Brancatelli each posted a 2-0 record on the doubles courts.
In the ITA's Sept. 6 preseason rankings, four Vols received singles recognition, along with two doubles pairs. Emile Hudd (No. 47), Shunsuke Mitsui (No. 82), Kent Hunter (No. 94) and Blaise Bicknell (No. 115) earned a singles ranking, while Mitsui/Hudd (No. 7) and Hunter/Bicknell came in at No. 56 in the doubles classification.
Live stats will be provided through Sidearm Stats, while live video feeds of every match will be available through a free account with Playsight.
The Knoxville Showdown marks the first official competition on Tennessee's recently resurfaced outdoor courts, now matching the US Open blue and green color scheme and the indoor courts at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
