Track Central: NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – The 2022 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships are set to begin this week, running Wednesday through Saturday – June 8-11 – and the Tennessee track & field program has sent 24 athletes to Eugene, Oregon, and Hayward Field.
The meet opens Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. ET with Yariel Soto competing in the decathlon. The championships conclude Saturday with the running of the women's 4x400-meter relay at approximately 7:51 p.m.
TENNESSEE SCHEDULE
UT has a total of 13 individual entries across 11 championship events as well as having the men's 4x100-meter relay, men's 4x400mR and the women's 4x400mR. Tennessee's full event breakdown can be seen below (all times Pacific).

DOUBLE DIP
Five Vols and one Lady Vol will double dip this week as Favour Ashe, Emmanuel Bynum, Rasheeme Griffith, Joella Lloyd Carey McLeod and Wayne Pinnock compete in two events each. Ashe, Bynum, McLeod and Pinnock are a part of the men's 4x100-meter relay squad, while Bynum and Griffith run on the men's 4x400m Relay.
Ashe will compete individually in the men's 100m, with McLeod and Pinnock leaping in the men's long jump. Griffith is set to run in the men's 400-meter hurdles.
Lloyd is qualified for the women in the 100m and 200m dash.
LOOKING FOR ANOTHER CROWN
Pinnock enters the national meet looking to make it a clean sweep in the men's long jump. In March at the Indoor National Championships, the Kingston, Jamaica, native won the NCAA indoor title with a leap of 7.92m (26-0).
He comes to Eugene with the nation's third-best outdoor mark this season at 8.06m (26-5.5).
TENNESSEE FLIGHT SCHOOL
UT is the only school in the nation to qualify three athletes in the men's long jump as Pinnock is joined by McLeod and Anthony Riley in the event. Additionally, Jalen Tate will leap for the Vols in the men's triple jump, while Charisma Taylor qualified for nationals in the women's triple jump.

The end of the national championships will mark the end of the collegiate season for the Tennessee track & field program. UT will have athletes competing throughout the summer in national events and at the world championships.
