Four Vols punched their ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday as the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds got underway in Bloomington, Indiana, at Indiana University's Haugh Track & Field Complex.
Â
Three of the four NCAA-bound Volunteers punched their ticket in the men's long jump, making UT the only school in the nation to qualify three student-athletes in the event. Wayne Pinnock led the way as he leaped 7.93m (26-0.25), finishing second overall in the competition.
Â
He will be joined in Eugene, Oregon, by teammates Carey McLeod and Anthony Riley. McLeod jumped 7.63m (25-0.5) to place eighth overall, while Riley got through at 7.62m (25-0) – Riley finished ninth in the men's long jump.
Â
For Pinnock, it will be his first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The freshman won the NCAA Indoor National Championship in the men's long jump in March and will attempt to capture the outdoor crown in June at historic Hayward Field.
Â
McLeod and Riley will both make their second trip to Eugene. In 2021, McLeod finished third in the men's long jump, with Riley placing 22nd.
Â
In the men's shot put, Jordan West qualified for Eugene with a top throw of 19.76m (64-10). The Rahway, New Jersey, native placed fourth overall in the event.
Â
With his qualification, West will make the trip to Eugene for the third time in his career. He placed 13th in the men's shot put in 2021 and 12th in 2018.
