Vols’ Run at SEC Tournament Ends in Semifinals

ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 5 Tennessee men's tennis team's run at the SEC Tournament concluded in the semifinals Saturday, falling to third-ranked Florida 4-1.
Tennessee (22-7) now awaits the May 2 NCAA Tournament Selection Show.
Florida (22-2) narrowly claimed the doubles point, taking the tiebreak on court three, 7-6(8). On court two, the 21st-ranked pairing of Shunsuke Mitsui and Emile Hudd defeated #37 Andy Andrade and Mattias Siimar, 6-4 after going up a break at 2-1.
In singles, Florida took a 3-0 lead with singles wins on courts three and six, before Tennessee's #12 Johannus Monday took down Florida's 27th-ranked Sam Riffice in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(4). Monday broke back in the second set to make it 4-5 and eventually won the set's tiebreak, 7-4. The Gators clinched the match with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win on court four. Singles matches on courts one and five went unfinished, including Adam Walton's match, after Walton fended off Ben Shelton in a second-set tiebreak to send it to a third set.
