Monday Named to SEC Community Service Team
April 14, 2022 | Men's Tennis
Tennessee men's tennis sophomore Johannus Monday has been named to the SEC Community Service team, the conference announced Thursday.
Â
Having been on Rocky Top for just under two years, Monday has already made an impactful difference both on the court for the Vols and in the Knoxville community.
Â
In the fall of 2021, the University of Tennessee Athletics Department selected Monday as part of its VOLeaders Academy Class of 2021-22. Majoring in political science, Monday joined the largest ever VOLeaders cohort, which is comprised of 45 student-athletes that represent each of Tennessee's 20 varsity sports. The year-long leadership curriculum begins annually starting with the Fall semester and concludes with an international cultural exchange trip in the summer.
Â
As part of his weekly VOLeaders experience, Monday, a native of Hull, England, teaches the ins and outs of tennis to attendees at a kids' tennis clinic each week. In the fall of 2021, Monday also donated his time by serving at a local Knoxville school, where he helped run P.E. classes during the week. The VOLeaders group also participates in team-building activities, such as when Monday and the group participated in a blind-folded kickball game earlier this spring.
Â
On court as a Vol, Monday has logged a 52-15 overall singles record, including a 35-9 mark (12-3 SEC) in dual matches. Monday has also seen great success in doubles, registering a 43-18 overall tally through nearly two seasons of action, which includes a 32-11 (7-4 SEC) record in dual matches.
Â
Monday and the fifth-ranked Vols host Alabama this Friday, April 15 at 4 p.m. ET, before Tennessee's Senior Day on Sunday against Auburn at 1 p.m. ET. The SEC Tournament begins next Wednesday, running April 20-24.
