Hudd Earns Top-Four Singles Win, Mitsui and Hudd Advance in Doubles
October 05, 2022 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. – Members of the Tennessee men's tennis team earned a pair of victories—one in the singles main draw and another in the doubles main draw—Wednesday at the ITA All-American Championships.
Tennessee graduate student #47 Emile Hudd secured a statement win over fourth-ranked Iñaki Montes of Virginia in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. Hudd opened the match with poise en route to dropping just one game in the first set, using that momentum to take the match and advance to the Round of 32.
It was Hudd's first singles action of the fall season and marked his 31st career singles win since arriving on Rocky Top last fall.
On the doubles courts Wednesday evening, Hudd and Mitsui—the nation's seventh-ranked doubles pairing—battled for a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Pepperdine's Daniel De Jonge and Tim Zeitvogel. The Tennessee duo improves to 29-12 as a pair (2-0 together this fall) and move on to the Round of 16.
