Tennessee Draws With Alabama in Exhibition, 0-0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee kicked off the 2021 season with a 0-0 draw in an exhibition match against SEC rival Alabama on Wednesday in front of a crowd of 410 fans at Regal Stadium.
The Vols were aggressive offensively, out-shooting the Crimson Tide 18-3 and taking 10 corner kicks to Alabama's one. Redshirt-sophomore Jaida Thomas led the team in opportunities, reeling off five shots, three of which were on frame. Sophomores Lindsey Brick and Lawson Renie each had two shots, with Renie's second coming as a header off a corner in the 81st minute that nearly snuck by Alabama keeper Brooke Bollinger.
For the Crimson Tide, forward Ashlynn Serepca and midfielders Felicia Knox and Macy Clem each tallied one shot on goal.
UT junior goalkeeper Lindsey Romig notched two saves on the night, and Ashley Gabor, a senior transfer from the University of Pennsylvania, saw her first action as a Volunteer in the final 14 minutes of the game, logging one save.
In total, 20 members of the UT squad made their way onto the field, including four freshmen making their Tennessee debuts.
The game was the sole exhibition match of the 2021 season for both Alabama and Tennessee.
Next Up: Tennessee will host Florida Gulf Coast in the season opener on Thursday, Aug. 19. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., and the game will be available for streaming on SECN+.
