May 19, 2021 | Men's Golf
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – For the first time since 2013, the Tennessee men's golf team is headed to the NCAA Championships following a tied for second place finish at the Noblesville Regional.
By way of being one of the top five teams in the Noblesville Regional, the Vols qualified for the NCAA Championships, which are set to take place from May 28 to June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
"I'm very proud of all of our guys," head coach Brennan Webb said. "They followed their game plan to perfection this week and played with patience and discipline.
"Advancing through regionals is never a given, and to be able to advance with not a lot of stress during the last round was great. I know this is another confidence for our guys and they are excited for next week."
The Vols are set to be one of 30 total teams competing at the NCAA Championships, as five teams from each of the six regionals advanced to the final stage. Tennessee's upcoming appearance in the NCAA Championships also marks Webb's first as a head coach.
As a team at the Noblesville Regional, the Vols tied for second place and shot a three-round total of 15-under 849. The second-place finish marks Tennessee's highest regional finish since 2009.
Recording his sixth career top-five finish, Hunter Wolcott led the Vols with a 6-under performance, tying for fifth place. Wolcott, who shot all three rounds par or better, shot 4-under for the day on Wednesday, his best single round since March.
Tennessee got another top-10 performance from Bryce Lewis, who finished just one stroke behind Wolcott and tied for seventh place. It marks Lewis' third top-10 finish of the season and dating to March, his fourth straight top-25 finish.
Shooting 1-under for the week, Spencer Cross recorded his fifth top-20 finish of the spring, tying for 18th place.
The Vols' final counting round of the day on Wednesday came from Rhys Nevin, who shot even par during round three and 2-over overall. Nevin tied for 31st place.
Just one stroke back from Nevin was Brayden Garrison, who shot 3-over for the week and tied for 35th place in the 72-man field.
